Steve served in the U.S. Army during Desert Storm, initially, as a Field Artillery crewman and later as a Combat Medic. He finished his term as a Tactical Operation Sergeant in the Minnesota Army National Guard. He then began his civilian career in EMS as a Nationally Registered Critical Care Paramedic, working in both urban and rural environments. During his tenure as a Paramedic, he has been a SWAT Medic, Rescue Crew Chief, Flight Paramedic and the Director of an EMS service. He has been instrumental in developing new protocols and procedures and teaching them to other healthcare providers.

Steve now serves as the Operations Captain and Medical Officer for KY Region 12 HAZMAT/WMD Team, Medical Officer and SAR K9 Handler/Evaluator for Somerset-Pulaski County Rescue Squad, and an EMS Evaluator/Instructor for Kentucky. He also is currently a Handler/Trainer/Evaluator for the Somerset Chapter Love on a Leash Therapy Program.
